1977 Pinzgauer 710K

This is a Swiss built 1977 Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer 710K all-terrain vehicle. It was originally a radio truck that served in the Swiss military during the late 1970's and 1980's.  It is powered by an air cooled 2.5 liter inline 4 cylinder engine that makes around 90hp and about 130 lbs of torque!

In recent years the Pinzgauer has fallen out of favor as a military vehicle due to it's vulnerability to IEDs. However, it still remains a very popular off-road enthusiast vehicle due to it's simple military design, construction and reliability.

There are several versions built by Steyr-Puch including a six-wheeled version. Most Pinzgauzers are cloth top troop carriers making this 710K a rare hard top wagon. It is affectionately know as the "cockroach" because of it's large whip antennas.

The interior has no-frills seating for five.

Although the radio equipment has been stripped out, most of the communications wiring remains.

The engine sits directly between the front seats and runs on leaded gasoline. The Pinzgauer 710K averages about 12 to 14 miles per gallon with a 20 gallon fuel tank.  It has a 5-speed manual transmission giving it a top speed of  about 70 mph. The two yellow levers on the center dash control the differentials while the green one engages 4-wheel drive.

There is a gun turret opening above the front passenger's seat and this small gas heater on the floor behind the driver's seat!

All instrumentation and markings are in German.

The Pinzgauer is a unique wagon that is sure to turn heads as it rolls by.
